Take the Tour. Go step by step through a typical session with Vermont HighTest and see how it can simplify your testing and save you time and money!
Page 1 — Preparing to Test
Because an automated software testing tool is just one piece of the overall testing environment (other pieces include version control and bug tracking software, test plans and test cases), you’ll need to make sure your test plans and test cases are well organized and provide adequate coverage of your application. When you’re ready, it will be time to start up HighTest and set HighTest’s preferences to meet your needs.
HighTest’s preferences allow you to specify the following:
Miscellaneous

- Show Debug Variables, Show Call Stack, Use Compression, Change the Editor Font
Hot Keys
[View Screen]
- Set the Screenshot and Suspend hot keys. You may choose between F1 to F12 with any combination of the Ctrl, Alt and Shift keys
- Set the type of screenshot that the screenshot hotkey takes. This may be the entire screen, the application window or the focus window
Record
[View Screen]
- Specify what to record — Keystrokes, Mouse clicks and drags, and/or All mouse movements
- Convert mouse actions to object-level events
- Record mouse actions relative to which window — Screen, Application, Focus, or Intelligent
- Use one combined or multiple RecordBar buttons for screenshots
- Specify the default wait time for commands
Toolbars
[View Screen]
- Create as Flat or Raised
- Use Bitmaps, Text or both
- Turn on or off the main toolbar, the floating RecordBar and the floating CompareBar
- Add/delete buttons in the main toolbar
Script Header
[View Screen]
- Customize the header that is put into the script during a new record or when appending to an existing script. Special character sequences allow the time/date and the filename to be inserted into the script dynamically.
Log
[View Screen]
- Specify which commands to log
- Specify if a log should be created and how often commands are written to disk
- Append or overwrite existing log file
- Specify directory log files are saved to
- Automatically open or refresh log file when playback paused or suspended
Playback
[View Screen]
- Specify which commands will stop playback on failure
- Specify which information will be ignored during comparisons
- Specify which parameters of some commands to ignore
- Set the playback speed from very slow to real-time to very fast
