Vermont Views For UNIX
And Other Terminal Operating Systems

UNIX - POSIX - TERMINAL OS SPECIFICATIONS

This page contains ONLY information that is specific to the operating system that this version runs on. For a complete description of Vermont Views, go to the Vermont Views main product page.

Portable User Interface
Vermont Views allows you to create a user interface that remains the same across UNIX, VMS, XENIX, POSIX, and DOS, enabling forms, menus, and windows to behave consistently in each environment.

The function calls, arguments and resultant functionality are the same from one operating system to another. Source code does not have to be rewritten to port to another environment.

The application source code is recompiled and re-linked with the appropriate version of Vermont Views. Each operating system of Vermont Views allows for the creation of applications for that particular operating system.

Terminal Independence
Vermont Views provides terminal independence by means of our own custom terminal interface, a superset of the UNIX termcap interface. Our terminal capabilities database supports a number of popular terminal types and allows you to add information needed to support other terminals under Vermont Views. Basic terminal information can be imported from a standard termcap file.

Quick Screen Updating
We maximize the speed of screen updating by using a virtual screen and an advanced screen update algorithm to eliminate unnecessary cursor movement and screen output. The result is fast, efficient screen updating.

Unix And Vermont Views
To support a broad range of UNIX machines, Vermont Views libraries are provided as either full source or as shrouded source. Shrouded source is full source with the comments removed and local identifiers encrypted. It allows you to easily compile versions specific to your computer. The Designer is always provided in shrouded source.

Shrouded source is provided at a low price, comparable to what you would expect for binary versions. Only full source can be modified or fully studied.

In addition, we provide shell scripts to make installing and building the Vermont Views libraries and the Designer executable easy.

Memory mapped console output is supported for SCO UNIX and Interactive UNIX.
